Son's first game expo: EGX 2023 - a memorable experience.
Last Sunday, I took my seven-year-old son to EGX 2023 at the ExCel Centre in London. Even though it was his first time attending an expo, he was excited to try out the new games. It was a bit of a different atmosphere compared to the pre-covid times; however, it still had a promising atmosphere.

We started off with C-Smash VRS on PlayStation VR2, which was my son's first time experiencing virtual reality. After putting on the headset, he was a bit taken aback but quickly adjusted and was swinging away, hitting most of the returns. It was a great experience for him and the game is available now.

I then went to try out Wargroove 2 on the Nintendo Switch. I'm a huge fan of grid-based tactics games, so I was looking forward to this one. I only had a chance to play the tutorial level, but I enjoyed it and the staff told me to keep an eye out for a physical release in the coming months.

The main attraction at the show was Super Mario Bros. Wonder on the Nintendo Switch. There were plenty of demo stations set up with props for pictures, and even Mario and Luigi in costume for photos. We played this game in the two-player co-op mode a few times during the day. My son thought the Elephant Mario power-up was a bit underwhelming, but he still had a lot of fun.

We also attended the talk, The Story of Mario + Rabbids with Grant Kirkhope. My son was a bit bored after 20 minutes, but I found it highly entertaining. Kirkhope mentioned some of the games he worked on during his time at Rare, which was really interesting.

We then decided to take a break in the dedicated family area. We had a great time painting miniature figures and my son was particularly enamoured with the game My Little Universe. We ended up downloading it on our iPad when we got home, and it's also available on the Nintendo Switch.

Sonic Superstars was also at the show, and we had a great time playing it at the Specsavers stand. We also spent some time on the gaming bus, playing Minecraft and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It was a great experience and everyone was enjoying Cyberpunk 2077.

Finally, the Call Of Duty games were showcased, promoting Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta. I was interested in trying it, but unfortunately I couldn't.

Overall, we both had a great day and sampled some games we didn't expect to. My son loved it so much that he's already asked to go back next year.
