Madikeri, Nov. 19: A one-day workshop on Circular Economy Solid Waste Management was organized by the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI) of Bangalore at the Kushalnagar Municipality Hall for the environmental officers and health inspectors of local urban bodies of Mysuru and Kodagu districts under the Swachh Bharat Mission scheme of the Directorate of Municipal Administration. Inaugurating the workshop and speaking about our garbage - our responsibility and creating a clean environment, Kudumangaluru Government High School Principal T.G. Premkumar said that it is the responsibility of all of us to segregate and properly dispose of the garbage generated daily for the creation of a better environment. If we dispose of garbage properly in the manner of our garbage - our responsibility, we can maintain a clean environment.

For better environmental protection, we should take great care to create a clean and beautiful environment by properly managing the solid waste, including plastic waste, generated daily in our surroundings.

Speaking in the chair, Municipal Chief Officer T.S. Girish said that we should give high priority to effective waste management. This training is helpful in creating more awareness about solid waste management.

He said that if the community joins hands in waste management, it is possible to create a better environment. Speaking in the introduction, H. Vijayalakshmi, Coordinator of the Swachh Bharat Mission Division of the Directorate of Municipal Administration, said that the MPRI is giving high priority to environmental cleanliness and solid waste management by creating awareness among the officials of local bodies and the public about environmental cleanliness, solid waste management and disposal.

Anirudh Datta, a subject expert, gave detailed information on solid waste management and resource person Vasuki on “Preparation of compost fertilizer from raw waste” through slides and PPT.

District Solid Waste Management Promoter M.Kirtiprasad, trainers of MPRI N. Raghavendra, A.M.Ruchita Sri, Senior Health Officer of the Municipality M.C.Uday Kumar, and other officials were present. They trained the campers. At the same time, T.G.Premakumar administered the oath on clean environment and proper waste management. Then a discussion was held on creating a clean environment by properly disposing of the waste generated in towns and urban areas every day. Environmental officers and health inspectors of the local urban bodies of Mysore and Kodagu districts including the Mysore Metropolitan Corporation participated in the training. Madikeri Municipal Council of the district Officials from Kushalnagar Municipality, Somwarpet, and Virajpet Town Panchayats were present.
