Six people in Bengal have been taken into custody for their involvement in the assault and mistreatment of Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee.

In Kolkata, a group of six individuals have been taken into custody for their involvement in the attack on Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. This incident took place in Sonarpur, a town located in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. According to the police, who made a statement on Sunday, the suspects were apprehended after a thorough investigation was conducted.

The attack happened when Banerjee was on his way to visit the family of a deceased Trinamool worker in Sonarpur on Saturday. As he made his way through the crowd, he faced a barrage of eggs and brick fragments being hurled at him. The mob also shouted slogans accusing him of being a thief.

Despite being protected by his security personnel, Banerjee was still harassed and even punched by some of the protesters. This incident raised concerns about the level of security provided by the police. To address these concerns, the Sonarpur police station carried out a search operation in the area throughout the night.

They also reviewed video footage of the attack. As a result, the six suspects were identified and arrested. It has been reported that they are all locals, who were present at the scene of the incident when it took place.

The police are currently questioning them to gather more information and determine if anyone else was involved in the attack. To ensure the safety of the area, the police have increased patrolling in the vicinity. The police confirmed that the search operation was carried out overnight and by Sunday morning, all six suspects were in custody.

However, investigations are ongoing. Following the incident, Banerjee was escorted to a private hospital on EM Bypass in Kolkata. After receiving initial treatment, the doctors informed him that he did not need to be admitted.

He was then taken to another private hospital near Minto Park, where he received the same news. Throughout this ordeal, Banerjee was accompanied by his aunt, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. In a statement, Mamata Banerjee expressed her anger towards the BJP government, saying that her nephew's treatment will now take place at home.

She assured the public that he will receive any necessary medical attention, including saline and oxygen. If needed, he will be taken to Hyderabad for further treatment. This incident has been widely reported by various media outlets, including Orissa POST, Odisha's No.1 English Daily.
