Siddalingpur Government Primary School Closed Without Students

Kudige, Jul. 20: A 35-year-old government primary school has been closed due to lack of students.

The government primary school, which was opened in Siddalingpur under Torenuru Gram Panchayat in 1991, has been closed due to declining enrolment. The closure of this school, which has educated thousands of students, has upset the locals.

A significant number of government schools have been closing their doors in recent years due to the preference of parents to teach in English medium. Siddalingpur school has now joined this list.

Children from Siddalingpur, Basiruguppe, Aliluguppe and Rangayanpur areas had been dependent on education here. However, in the current academic year, there were one student each in classes 7, 6 and 4 and two in class 5. Of these, two had joined residential schools and the enrolment had plummeted. Siddalingapura School has reached a point where it has to be closed as other children have enrolled in other schools.

The school has been closed since Ta. 6, and the education department should create awareness and try to increase enrollment, villagers including P.D. Ravi and Satish have demanded.

Two of the three teachers in the school have been transferred, while one teacher has been assigned to Torenur Primary School. The school records have been given to the nearby Aluwara School. - K.K. Nagarajashetty
