Si King from Hairy Bikers shares when he finally allowed himself to grieve, according to Dave Myers.
Si King, one half of the beloved duo the Hairy Bikers, recently shared his experience with grief following the loss of his best friend and co-star, Dave Myers. In a heartfelt interview, Si opened up about how a special event, known as Dave's Day, helped him and fans begin the grieving process.

The one-hour special, titled The Hairy Bikers: You'll Never Ride Alone, documents the 30-mile motorcycle ride that took place in honor of Dave's life. It aired on BBC Two on December 23rd and saw over 46,000 motorcyclists participate. The emotional celebration raised funds for various charities and served as a fitting tribute to the TV star, who passed away at the age of 66 from cancer in February.

Speaking to the PA news agency, Si explained that he felt it was important to make this documentary after marking the 32nd anniversary of his friendship with Dave and 23 years of working together. "It seemed only right and fitting that after that date passed, that we did something, and we thought that this was the best way to celebrate his life," he said.

According to Si, Dave's Day not only served as a celebration but also gave "permission" to him and the Hairy Bikers family to start the grieving process for his best mate. He added, "Because I think what Dave Day did was give permission, to a wider audience, I’d say the Hairy Bikers family to start that grieving process for my best mate."

Recalling the experience of putting together the documentary, Si described it as "very nostalgic" and said it brought back many memories of their travels together. "We’ve been five-and-a-half times around the world, we’ve been to the moon and back, literally in terms of mileage, and most of that was spent in the saddle of a motorcycle as two friends," he shared.

However, he also admitted that it was not easy to film the show and do the voiceover, as it brought back a lot of emotions. But Si believes it was important to continue their journey and fulfill Dave's wish for him to continue his TV career after his passing. "He would want me to continue very much, and I know that for sure, because we had the conversations, that was very important to us both," he said.

Through this documentary, Si hopes people will learn about the importance of living in the moment and being joyous, just as Dave had been. He explained, "Life ain’t easy in the modern world and it’s to be taken as a celebration, the last thing that Dave would want would be anybody crying into their soup. He used to say all the time, grab life by the balls, give it a shake and see what happens. That was the ethos of it all, understanding that life throws curve balls at you every now and then, so live in the moment, that’s what he’d want people to take away."

The Hairy Bikers: You'll Never Ride Alone aired on BBC Two on Monday, December 23rd, at 9pm.
