The National Television Awards (NTAs) had it all this year. From drama and glamour, to comedy and shock, this ceremony was jam-packed with memorable moments.
The stars of our TV sets descended on London’s O2 for a night of celebrating each other’s success. Among them was Best Factual Programme nominee Stacey Solomon, 33, who upstaged her partner Joe Swash, 41, in a pink tulle dress. It was certainly a case of ‘She’s Barbie, He’s just Ken’.
Leading the show was comedian Joel Dommett, 38, who set the tone for the night by joking that his wife Hannah Cooper, 32, could give birth at any second. The crowd was in stitches from the start.
Piers Morgan, 58, was welcomed to the ceremony by Joel in his opening monologue, followed by a mixture of unsavoury noises from the audience. The notorious host was at the event to receive the Best TV Interview award for his show Piers Morgan Uncensored. But, unfortunately, The Graham Norton Show won instead.
The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award was presented to Gogglebox, and Jenny Newby, 67, and Lee Riley, 65, proudly led the thank-you speech. The pair admitted to enjoying a few drinks at the hotel bar, to the delight of the crowd!
Sarah Lancashire, 55, was another star of the night. She won two awards, the Drama Performance award for her role as Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley, and the Special Recognition award, presented to her by Sir Ian McKellen, 84. The crowd was surprised to hear her real voice, which Sarah tearfully accepted with a list of thank yous. She later confirmed that Happy Valley will not continue as a trilogy.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the late Paul O’Grady, who won the Factual Entertainment Award for his TV show For The Love Of Dogs. Representatives from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home accepted the award on his behalf, accompanied by Dog Riley who barked loudly when they said they would miss him.
Ant and Dec, both 47, also had a successful night, winning the Best Presenter award for the 22nd consecutive time!
Will Best, 38, and AJ Odudu, 35, gave viewers a glimpse of their presenting chemistry, which could soon be going head-to-head with the Ant and Dec duo.
This Morning, however, didn’t fare so well. The ITV programme lost its Best Daytime Show title to The Repair Shop.
Holly Willoughby, 42, attended the ceremony without former This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield for the first time. When asked about how she had coped with the past year, Holly replied that it had been ‘up and down’, but that she had been lucky to have the support of those around her.
All in all, it was a night of surprises and memories that will stay with us for a long time.
The National Television Awards was the event of the year, and the stars of our TV sets descended on the red carpet at London's O2 to celebrate themselves and their colleagues. Piers Morgan, who caught the tube to the event, was welcomed to the evening by Joel in his opening monologue, to a chorus of boos. He was at the ceremony in the hopes of picking up a gong for the best TV Interview, but was beaten by The Graham Norton Show. He was modest about his chances, claiming that everyone would rather shoot themselves than give him an award.
The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award was given to Gogglebox, and Jenny Newby and Lee Riley proudly led the thank-you speech. They admitted to enjoying a few beverages at the hotel bar - who could blame them?

The ceremony also paid tribute to TV legends who were no longer with us, including Sir Michael Parkinson and Paul O'Grady. His show, For The Love Of Dogs, won the Factual Entertainment Category, and representatives from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home accepted the award.
Ant and Dec, who were nominated for Best Presenter for the 22nd consecutive time, couldn't be stopped and won yet again. They spoke about their friendship, and how they love each other.
