Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra seek to dismiss cheating case worth ₹60 crores through Bombay High Court.
In a recent development, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra, who is a businessman, have approached the Bombay High Court. They are seeking to dismiss the charges of cheating worth Rs 60 crore against them, filed by the economic offences wing of the Mumbai police.

Apart from requesting the court to dismiss the First Information Report (FIR), the couple has also urged the police to refrain from filing a chargesheet and taking any coercive action against them until their pleas are heard. The matter was brought before a bench consisting of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekar and Justice Gautam Ankhad on Monday.

During the hearing, the court asked the couple to provide a copy of their petitions to the complainant, Deepak Kothari, who had accused them of cheating. The next hearing is scheduled for November 20.

Kothari had alleged that the couple had induced him to invest Rs 60 crore in their company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, between 2015 and 2023. However, the funds were allegedly used for their personal benefit. In response, the couple has claimed that the FIR was based on false and distorted facts and was filed with malicious intent to extort money.

Shetty, in her plea, stated that she was not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and was only associated with it for a brief period. The couple further added that the entire dispute was of civil and contractual nature, arising from a failed business venture and investment loss.

They also stated that the collapse of their company was a result of unforeseen economic circumstances, such as demonetization in November 2016, which had a severe impact on cash-based businesses. They clarified that the losses incurred were purely business losses and not a result of any fraudulent activities or criminal conspiracy.

In other news, actress Gouri Kishan recently made headlines when she refused to accept an apology from a reporter who had body-shamed her. She stated that she would not accept hollow words and demanded a sincere apology. Meanwhile, Indian fans were disappointed with singer Akon's concert in Delhi, calling it a huge waste of money and a horrible experience.
