Sherrell Dorsey, a tech innovator, has announced the closure of her content platform, The Plug.
Sherrell Dorsey, the initiator of

The Plug, declared that the prominent content platform is coming to a close.

Dorsey posted on The Plug's website and her Instagram page to report the news:

“Dear readers, subscribers, and long-term backers—Today is the final day our team will serve you all through The Plug. We're wrapping up, but never relinquishing our beliefs. From the time the initial newsletter was sent 7 years ago, I was not sure that The Plug would become the force it is today. I just knew that Black originators, investors, and ecosystem leaders merited better journalism, data insights that captured our stories, and platforms that formed communities and not just content flooding with click-bait and open letters. When I look over the body of work we made, I am grateful for what me and my team managed to achieve with your assistance.”

Dorsey set up a streamlined content platform to quickly send content to as many people as possible. The site joins together tech news related to people of color via Feedly. The content is then delivered to subscribers in a daily newsletter.

According to Dorsey, The Plug was constructed to demonstrate how Black people interact with the economy. Created in 2016, it was the first daily newsletter that included novice Black companies and the economy.

“Today, we compile the fastest-growing collection of communities directing the future of work, business, and technology, for leaders, executives, government officials, reporters, and investigators who are embracing inclusively about creating, supporting, funding, and managing upcoming communities, companies, and technologies,” The Plug reads.

The Plug has been bolstered by large corporations such as Comcast NBCUniversal, New Profit, Knight Foundation, Knight-Lenfest, Morgan Stanley, Ford Foundation, Goldman Sachs, and  MasterCard.

Earlier this year, Dorsey gave a TEDx Talk at Binghamton University. She is also in negotiations to host a TED Tech podcast.

“I remain open to novel opportunities to help environment-forward organizations build the required technologies to modify our relationship with the resources we possess on earth, while also establishing access points via skills training for deprived communities to join the future of work,” Dorsey declared in the newsletter, as reported by AfroTech.
