In a recent development, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed his thoughts on the unsuccessful US-Iran peace talks in Pakistan. He also announced that the US Navy will actively intercept any vessel in international waters that has paid tolls to Iran for passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route responsible for handling 20% of the world's oil and LNG. On the other hand, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who was the head of the Iranian negotiation team, stated that it is up to the US to prove whether they can be trusted or not. The Iranian foreign ministry also released a statement, without providing any details, stating that the US made "excessive" and "illegal demands." The failure to reach an agreement has raised concerns about the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to stabilize the global energy market.
