Shania Twain triumphs over cold at BST Hyde Park show.
Shania Twain took center stage at BST Hyde Park right after her legendary performance at Glastonbury. As she greeted the crowd, there was only one appropriate response to her question, “How are you feeling?” – “Man, I feel like a woman.” And indeed, that was exactly how I felt. But it wasn't just that, I also experienced a range of emotions including joy, awe, excitement, and pure bliss. Shania's headline set was nothing short of a spectacular show.

The Canadian singer performed at the popular London park just a week after her much-talked-about Legends slot at Glastonbury. Some fans had complained about the sound quality at the festival, but everything was on point during her performance last night. She even battled through a cold, occasionally turning her back to the audience to blow her nose, but her powerhouse vocals remained unaffected. At 58 years old, she still proved to be "The One."

As I entered BST Hyde Park, it was clear that everyone was there to pay homage to the country queen, Shania. Despite being just a stone's throw away from Oxford Circus, it felt like we were transported to Nashville – almost everyone was sporting a cowboy hat or rhinestone boots.

Shania kicked off her set with a bang, starting with her hit song "Don't Be Stupid." She was punctual, even a little early, which only added to her charm. She needed no introduction and dived straight into her performance. And let me tell you, she looked incredible. In a nod to the UK, she rocked a Vivienne Westwood denim skirt and matching jacket. She even got the audience involved in choosing between two cowboy hats, based on their cheers. We naturally picked the one with the most gemstones.

There were rumors that Shania's friend Harry Styles might make a special appearance at her show, like she did at his Coachella set in 2022. Although it didn't happen at Glastonbury, there were whispers that it might happen at BST Hyde Park, as it's just a short drive from his North London home. However, there was no sign of Harry Styles, but Shania couldn't resist teasing the audience.

She also had some great banter with the crowd in between songs, displaying her endearingly goofy charm. At one point, she even hugged the artificial tree built into the stage and asked if it was real. Of course, it wasn't, but she shrugged it off and told it, "I believe in you."

Before belting out "Honey, I'm Home," Shania asked the crowd to harmonize with her. She praised our efforts, except for one person who was "off-key." She even tried to find the culprit in the audience to scold them, but it was all in good fun. She joked that she was just being tough because she wanted the best for us. And we were all putty in her hands.

Aside from her amazing interactions with the audience, Shania was also an exceptional performer. She mentioned that she's been a pop star for 27 years, but her energy at BST Hyde Park was that of a 27-year-old. She was constantly moving around the stage, jamming with her musicians, and exuding a contagious energy.

And let's not forget the bangers she delivered. Shania gave a stripped-down, acoustic version of "You're Still The One," with just her and her guitar. It was a haunting performance that left not a dry eye in the house.

Her rendition of "That Don't Impress Me Much" transformed the stage into a Western cowboy bar. It was the kind of bar where I could imagine propping up the counter and playing endless songs on the jukebox. If only I could bottle up Shania's exuberance during that performance.

The finale, of course, was "Man I Feel Like A Woman." By this point, Shania had been singing for an hour and a half, but she showed no signs of slowing down as she belted out the timeless classic. The exceptional musicians even played an extended instrumental of the song to send us off into the night. My only complaint was that I was so high on Shania Twain that I couldn't sleep afterwards.

BST Hyde Park is set to continue until July 14, with performances from the likes of Stevie Nicks and Kylie Minogue. It's an event not to be missed.
