September State Of Play was a disappointment, with no news regarding the PS5.
We all knew this was coming. Thursday night's State of Play PlayStation 5 preview showcase had almost no new game announcements, as Sony had warned us in advance that the focus would be on third-party and indie titles. Although there were some good Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth news, the only completely new game was Baby Steps, which didn't look very promising. It seemed to be a physics-based game in the style of Human: Fall Flat or QWOP, but with a baby-like character that doesn't use their arms.

The other sort-of-new announcement was the long awaited Separate Ways expansion for Resident Evil 4. It had been expected for a while, and it's finally been confirmed for release on September 21. The expansion was introduced in the PlayStation 2 version of the original Resident Evil 4 and allows you to play as the anti-hero, Ada Wong, instead of Leon.

We also got confirmation of the Resident Evil 4 VR Mode, which will be out this winter. Although there was no indication of how much Separate Ways will cost, the VR mode will be free, so that's something to look forward to.

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer was the last one of the showcase, and it looked great. We got to see previously unseen characters, Cait Sith and Vincent Valentine, as well as chocobo racing and other iconic elements. The game will be out on February 29 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

The showcase also featured some other interesting titles such as Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, GhostRunner 2, Helldivers 2, and FoamStars. GhostRunner 2 is out on October 26, while Helldivers 2 is out on February 8. FoamStars is a blatant clone of Splatoon, and there will be an open beta of it starting on September 29.

Sony also announced the new PlayStation 5 colours as part of the Deep Earth Collection: Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. The colours will be available in November 3, and the Sterling Silver will be available on January 26. These are just covers and DualShock controllers, not a complete set you can buy altogether.

Overall, this wasn't the worst State of Play Sony has ever had. Although there wasn't anything groundbreaking, there were some interesting games and details revealed. Hopefully the next State of Play will bring more exciting news.
