The accused had illegally entered the house and sexually assaulted her. A case was registered at the Kodagu Women's Police Station in Madikeri on the complaint of the victim's father. Achamma and a charge sheet was filed against the accused in the court for the offence under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.
Chief District and Sessions Judge Hosamani Pundalik conducted the trial and convicted Nandakumar after proving the charges.
The verdict ordered a 1-year sentence under the Indian Penal Code for the crime of sexual harassment, a 3-year sentence under the POCSO Act, and a fine of Rs. 3000 and a compensation of one lakh to the aggrieved girl.
