Police in Grantham, Lincolnshire are searching for an e-scooter rider after they collided with a toddler on New Beacon Road on June 5th. The child suffered a cut to their knee but is otherwise unharmed. The rider left the scene without giving any details and headed in the direction of Harrowby Lane.
The woman is described as having long, dark brown hair tied back in a ponytail, wearing a dark jacket and riding a scooter that was dark grey. Police are not able to provide an age of the rider.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, with Steve Bellamy stating that e-scooter riders are "illegal menaces who endanger pedestrians in every local town and village". He went on to say, "Common sense rarely comes into it. It's a wonder no one has been more permanently hurt."
Riding an e-scooter on the pavement is generally an offence, carrying a fine up to £50. Additionally, if the rider is found to be using the scooter in an antisocial manner, it can be seized under section 59 of the Police Reform Act.
