Search continues for lost hiker after 8 days.
A team of specialized search operators from NSW have been dispatched to the beautiful Kosciuszko National Park in the hopes of finding a missing hiker. The search has now reached its eighth day, and the urgency to locate 23-year-old Hadi Nazari is mounting.

Nazari was last seen by his friends on Boxing Day, around 2:30pm, as he descended the Hannels Spur Trail at Geehi, a picturesque area between Khancoban and Thredbo. His friends had arranged to meet him at the Geehi Campground, but when he did not show up, they immediately began searching for him.

Upon realizing that Nazari was missing, his two friends promptly alerted the authorities, and the police, along with the State Emergency Service (SES), were on the case by 8:45pm that very same day. As the search continued, additional resources were brought in, including the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, NSW Ambulance, and the Police Air team, all working together to navigate the challenging terrain.

On December 31, some of Nazari's belongings, including hiking poles and rubbish, were found near the Kosciuszko River, leading the search team to focus their efforts in that area. Despite their efforts, Nazari remains missing, and the search is ongoing.

In order to increase their chances of success, more operators with winching capabilities have been brought in, allowing them to be lowered deeper into the bushland and search for longer periods of time. The search will continue throughout the weekend, as authorities remain hopeful of finding Nazari alive.

Acting Superintendent Jill Gibson of the Riverina Police District expressed their determination to find Nazari, stating, "We are continuing the search for Hadi, this remains an active search and rescue and we are not giving up hope of finding him alive." She also mentioned that their focus remains on the creek lines and water sources, where they believe Nazari may be.

The search team, which now comprises more than 250 personnel from various agencies, is facing the challenge of dense bushland and tough conditions on the ground. In some areas, the bushland is so thick that searchers are unable to see their own feet. Despite these obstacles, the search will persist, as Nazari is an experienced bushwalker, giving authorities reason to believe that he is still out there.
