Scotland has been hit by heavy rainfall throughout October, with some homes becoming flooded. Consequently, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Scotland from Thursday 6am until midnight Saturday.
The warning comes with the possibility of extensive flooding to homes and businesses, leading to potential collapse or damage to buildings or structures. Communities could even be completely cut off, perhaps for several days, and there is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater, presenting a danger to life. Power and other essential services, such as gas, water, and mobile phone service, could be lost.
A Met Office spokesperson commented: “Where flooding occurs, road closures are likely, along with bus and train service delays and cancellations. Dangerous driving conditions could occur because of spray and flooded roads.”
The north of Scotland has been issued yet another weather warning, this time for the possibility of snow. The UK will experience a cold snap in the coming days, with temperatures predicted to be 10°C lower than last weekend.
Alex Burkill, Met Office meteorologist, said: “Some places will be 10°C lower than they were last weekend. Looking at the details for Saturday, it’s a bright sunny picture for many of us to start. But showers feeding in from cold northerly wind.”
The showers will be “scattered,” he added, with “bright sunny spells.” He further explained that Scotland could see “some wintriness” with a “windy picture” across the country.
