Ryan Hawley from Emmerdale is back on the soap after a five-year absence.
Guess who's gracing our screens once again? It's none other than the talented Ryan Hawley! The former Emmerdale star has officially joined the cast of Casualty, making his first appearance in last week's episode. Fans of the 38-year-old actor will remember him as the fourth version of Robert Sugden in the popular ITV soap, a role he played for an impressive five years starting in 2014. He took over the character from Karl Davies and quickly became a fan favorite.

Ryan's on-screen love story with Aaron Dingle, also known as Robron, captured the hearts of viewers and solidified their place as one of the most beloved couples in soap history. However, their romance came to a tragic end in 2019 when Ryan made the difficult decision to leave the show. In his final scenes, Robert was arrested and sent to jail for attacking Lee Posner, who had previously raped his sister Victoria.

But don't worry, because Ryan is back and better than ever! Since leaving Emmerdale, he has appeared in the popular crime drama Silent Witness, sporting a new look with long hair and a beard. And now, he has returned to our screens in Casualty's latest boxset, titled Storm Damage. In the first episode, titled Sinking Ships, Ryan plays the role of Jamie Cleveland, a member of the board at Holby City Hospital who has a connection with fellow character Cam Micklethwaite.

Ryan's departure from Emmerdale in 2019 left fans wondering what he would do next, but the talented actor has not disappointed. He is joined on Casualty by actress Kellie Shirley, best known for her role as Carly Wicks in EastEnders. The first episode of Storm Damage focused on Cam, who had to make a difficult decision regarding a baby in his care. As a storm threatened the hospital, other characters such as Stevie and Tariq dealt with their own personal challenges.

In the previous series, Breaking Point, viewers saw Tariq and Rida by Rash's hospital bed after he attempted to take his own life. This was a dark time for the beloved doctor, who was struggling with the loss of his father and felt overwhelmed by his emotions. But thankfully, he was found by Tariq and rushed to the hospital. Actor Neet Mohan, who plays Rash, shared his thoughts on portraying such a powerful and important storyline in the show.

He said, "I was really excited to tell the story because I think the show’s in such a good place and it’s telling such interesting stories. I had hoped and believed that it would be told in a really interesting way and that we could shine a light on the real NHS and what people are going through, not just in the NHS but in general, which the show does so well."

He also emphasized the importance of telling this story, especially in the current times, saying, "So importantly, what many medical staff are feeling and the pressures they’re under. I think particularly now it felt like a really important story to tell. I feel really honoured to be able to tell it through Rash and I think having someone like Rash, we’ve seen him travel quite a journey, having someone like him at the forefront of this was a really interesting way for the show to tell the story at this particular time."
