Rhian Sugden and Oliver Mellor have announced they are expecting their first child! After six years of trying to conceive, the couple have finally been blessed with a baby due May 4, 2024.
The former Celebrity Big Brother star shared the news on her Instagram story where she looked gorgeous in a silky yellow dress, cradling her bump. Rhian said “We’re over the moon, our lives are going to change so much, which is very exciting.” Her Corrie husband Oliver added: “I can’t wait for the baby to be born, I’ll pump my fist to the sky and shout, ‘I’m a dad!’”
Rhian has been through a long journey of trying to conceive. They were given just a three per cent chance of conceiving naturally and had to go through eight rounds of IVF. The couple spent £130,000 and were on the verge of giving up. Even in their final round they were told that the two eggs were not ‘great quality’ and might not result in a viable pregnancy. Fortunately, nine days later, they got the good news.
Rhian had almost given up on having a child and was worried that Oliver would leave her in order to have a baby with someone else. She confessed to being concerned that she’d ‘die alone’, fears which her husband tried to assuage.
The road to happiness for Rhian hasn’t been easy. Before beginning her relationship with Oliver, she was embroiled in a texting scandal with Vernon Kay who had to publicly apologise to wife, Tess Daly. Rhian also apologised to Tess in 2018, saying she deeply regretted the friendship being allowed to continue the way it did.
The couple are overjoyed that their baby news has finally come true and are looking forward to starting their family.
