Residents of the Camden Harbor View Apartments in downtown Long Beach are facing a difficult problem - teens and the homeless have been terrorizing the complex. Break-ins, robberies, assaults, and fires have all been reported in the area.
Ty London, a resident of the complex, said that the situation is becoming increasingly dire. "They jump over the fences, getting into our pools, our hallways, stealing our packages. And we are inundated with homeless," he said. He added that his car has been broken into three times, and that there is no security whatsoever.
The Long Beach Police Department also reported that a man was brutally attacked by more than a dozen teenagers while returning from the gym earlier this month.
Camden Living, the owner of the property, told Fox 11 that they are working closely with the police to increase security. "In early September, we increased community security and requested additional patrols by the Long Beach Police Department," they said.
Javier Diaz, another resident of the complex, believes that the nearby skate park is to blame for the issues. "They broke our doors practically and get in right there," he said, pointing to an open gate. "We find homeless inside the building." He added that he was jumped by about 10 kids, aged 6 to 12, while getting off the train one day.
The Long Beach City Council has held at least one meeting about the issues last month. Hopefully, with their help, the Camden Harbor View Apartments can soon be rid of the terror that has been plaguing the complex.
