Heidi and Micah Stampley are thrilled to celebrate a huge accomplishment. Their Orleans Foods Authentic Beignet and Baking Mix is now sold in more than 200 Walmart stores across five Southern states! The couple were so proud to pitch their recipe, which Micah had perfected over two weeks.
The Stampleys had recently closed their Fayette County restaurant due to the COVID-19 lockdown, so they decided to take a chance on their dream and mass-produce their baking mix. Now their products are available in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
Heidi couldn't believe it when she saw their product in the store. She told WSB-TV, "Is this real? Because you’ve been going into Walmart all your life getting Duncan Hines and icing. All these things are there. And then my product is tucked right there in the middle!"
Walmart's annual Open Call event has been around for a decade, and it's designed to give small businesses a chance to have their products sold in stores. In addition, Walmart has committed to investing $350 billion in products made, grown, or assembled in America, so that more jobs can be created.
In addition to the Open Call, entrepreneurs can also apply to be part of the Walmart Marketplace, which allows approved sellers to place their products on Walmart.com. The Stampleys are proof that with hard work and determination, dreams really do come true.
