The Coastguard has launched a rescue operation in response to a report of someone in the water near Brighton Pier at around 3.50pm this afternoon. The rescue mission is in full swing, with lifeboats, a helicopter, coastguard teams and Sussex police combing the area in treacherous weather conditions.
