Hey there! So, have you heard about the latest news on Assassin's Creed Shadows? It seems like Ubisoft has had a rough year, first with their Star Wars game not living up to expectations and now with the delayed release of Assassin's Creed Shadows. And to make matters worse, it's coming out in the same year as a new Ghost Of Tsushima game.
Personally, I have no issue with Yasuke being in Shadows, but Ubisoft's lack of defense on the matter is just fueling the trolls online. I mean, I highly doubt historical accuracy was their main concern when creating a game about Japan. But the way they're tiptoeing around the topic is only causing more backlash. They really need to come out and stand by their decision, rather than avoiding the issue and letting the criticism continue.
It's quite a mess, and it's almost comical how it's kind of an admission that all Ubisoft games have similar flaws and are fixed in the same way. It's clear that the delay for Assassin's Creed Shadows was due to the negative reception and trolling online, and they're trying to make up for it with a reset in marketing and pre-orders.
Moving on to other news, the recent State of Play on Tuesday night may have seemed uneventful a few years ago, but in today's world, it was better than expected. I, for one, didn't even bother watching it live, assuming it would be a letdown. It's funny to think that I used to stay up late to watch Sony's E3 presentations. I wonder if this is a sign of them slowly getting back into gear or just a minor blip before another six months of no news or releases.
I am slightly hopeful though, with rumors of more games planned for next year. However, Sony will need more than one decent livestream to convince me that they've finally emerged from their cave. On a more positive note, I did enjoy the indie game The Midnight Walk, which I recently found out is published by Sony. I have to give them credit for their choice of third party exclusives, although I believe they should have more to offer.
Speaking of exclusives, the trailer for Ghost Of Yōtei got me hyped for the new game, even though it was mostly pre-rendered footage. It's a shame that Sony has stopped making such trailers, as they always manage to capture my interest. The only downside is the numerous unanswered questions, like whether this is a spin-off or sequel. And if it's a spin-off, does that mean the next game will go back in time with Jin as the main character?
I have a theory that this is intended as a true sequel and there may not be a Ghost Of Tsushima 2. Perhaps the new hero will be inspired by legends of the original ghost or even pretend to be them. That could be the common thread connecting all future sequels.
Moving on to other exciting news, Legacy Of Kain is being re-released for PlayStation! This is a step in the right direction by the executives at Sony. After writing in about the expensive DualSense Edge controllers, I am glad that us PlayStation 4 users are finally getting some love. I cannot wait to dive back into the game and relive my favorite moments. This is the best gaming news I've heard all year!
While I believe Nintendo will top this, I am still overjoyed with the news of Dino Crisis and Soul Reaver being re-released. It's moments like these that remind me why I love being a gamer. Just when things seem to be getting worse, we are pleasantly surprised with a game we never thought we'd see again.
Lastly, let's talk about Dragon Age: The Veilguard. While it does look impressive in terms of graphics and gameplay, there's something about it that feels lacking. Personally, I think the whole dragons and mages and fantasy theme has been overdone. Every game seems to have the same creatures and races, making them all blend together in my mind. I do appreciate the originality of the first Dragon Age game, but the sequels seem to have fallen into the trap of creating a generic fantasy world.
I understand that the same can be said for a lot of sci-fi games, but at least they have to come up with new aliens and planets. Although, it is quite amusing that Starfield managed to have giant spiders and crab monsters without any aliens. It's almost like they used a sci-fi clipart book for inspiration.
Well, that's all from me for now. What do you think about all these updates and news? Feel free to share your thoughts with us at email. Until next time, happy gaming!
Hey there everyone! Have you all seen the recent State of Play? It seems like the Thursday letters page is pretty impressed with it, but there's one reader who has some strong feelings about Horizon Zero Dawn remasters. Feel free to join in on the discussions by emailing us at the email address shared below.
So, let's talk about Assassin's Creed Shadows. What's the deal with that? It's been quite a disaster for Ubisoft this year. First, they released a Star Wars game that was actually pretty decent, but somehow managed to miss the mark. And now, their decisions with Assassin's Creed Shadows have resulted in a delay, causing it to release in the same year as Ghost Of Tsushima. Talk about a miscalculation.
Personally, I have no issue with Yasuke being in Shadows. But Ubisoft's hesitation to defend their decision is just giving trolls on the internet more ammunition. I highly doubt they were concerned about historical accuracy in a game about Japan, but their tip-toeing around the issue is only making things worse. They need to come out and firmly defend their choice, and tell the haters to back off. Otherwise, they'll continue to face criticism without any proper defense. And let's not forget, the delay is supposedly due to them learning from their mistakes with the Star Wars game. But what exactly are they learning? If Shadows is already finished, what could they possibly add at the last minute? Maybe make the stealth easier? It's all a bit of a shambles, and ironically, it just goes to show that all Ubisoft games have similar flaws and methods of fixing them. Could it be that the delay is a result of their worries about online trolling, and an attempt to reset the marketing and pre-orders? Who knows.
Moving on, let's talk about the recent Tuesday night's State of Play. A couple of years ago, it wouldn't have been considered very eventful, with Ghost Of Yōtei being the only standout news. But in today's world, it was actually better than expected. I personally didn't bother watching it live, as I assumed it would be a letdown. But it's funny to think that I used to stay up late to watch Sony's E3 presentations. The question now is, was this just a minor blip or a sign of Sony slowly getting back into gear? I'm cautiously optimistic, especially with rumors of more games being planned for next year. But Sony will need more than one decent livestream to convince me that they've crawled out from under their rock.
On a positive note, I absolutely loved that indie game, The Midnight Walk. And to my surprise, I found out that it's published by Sony. I have to give them credit, they do know how to pick their third-party exclusives. Although, I do hope they don't rely solely on them in the future.
Now, let's talk about Ghost Of Yōtei. Even though it was just a pre-rendered trailer, I thought it looked amazing and got me hyped for the game. I'm still not sure why Sony has stopped making these types of trailers, because for me, they really work. The only downside is that they leave us with so many questions. Is this a spin-off or a sequel? And if it's a spin-off, does that mean Ghost Of Tsushima 2 will go back in time and follow Jin as the main character again? My theory is that this is intended as a true sequel and there won't be a Ghost Of Tsushima 2. Maybe the new hero will be inspired by the legends of the original ghost, or perhaps they'll even pretend to be them. Who knows what the future holds for this franchise.
Now, onto some exciting news! Legacy Of Kain is being re-released for PlayStation. Finally, a move in the right direction by the executives. I previously wrote in about the high costs of the DualSense Edge controllers, but it seems like Sony has thrown us PlayStation 4 players a bone. I can't wait to dive back into the game. This is the best gaming news I've heard all year. And I have a feeling that Nintendo might top this, but for now, I'm thrilled about Dino Crisis and Soul Reaver. These are absolute gems to me. And no, I'm not just looking at them through rose-tinted glasses. I'm ready to spend a few more evenings of my life with Raziel and the Crisis Crew. Thank you, Sony, for redeeming yourselves and reminding me why I love being a gamer.
Lastly, let's talk about Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It did look impressive in terms of graphics, but there's something about it that feels bland to me. I think it's because the whole dragons and mages and fantasy theme has been overdone. Every game seems to have the same dragon designs, zombies, elves, dwarves, and so on. The original Dragon Age had a unique universe, but for some reason, they went with a generic fantasy world that could easily be mistaken for a hundred other games.
I know that sci-fi can also be generic, but at least they have to come up with new aliens and planets. Although, I couldn't help but laugh at how Starfield didn't have any aliens, yet they managed to include giant spiders and crab monsters that looked like they were taken from a sci-fi clipart compilation.
That's all for now, folks. Feel free to email us your thoughts and comments at the email address below. Until next time, happy gaming!
