Reader believes PS5 will be the worst PlayStation console ever.
Is the PS5 truly the weakest link in the PlayStation family? As a long-time PlayStation owner, I have witnessed the evolution of the consoles since the first one was released in the 90s. I must admit, I am not blindly loyal to the brand. I have also owned Nintendo and Xbox consoles in the past. But it seems that many people online still view Sony as infallible.

Let's be real, there's no grand plan or hidden agenda behind PlayStation's decisions. The recent reveals and new game releases have been few and far between. How many times have we hyped ourselves up for a major announcement, only to be disappointed with nothing significant? Even the recent State of Play, which was considered the best in ages, only gave us a glimpse of Ghost of Tsushima, a game that was already known about. This just goes to show the current state of this generation and the impending doom of the PlayStation 5 becoming the worst console in the family.

But let's not forget the past. The PlayStation 1, 2, and 4 were all great consoles, no one can deny that. Sure, you can argue that there were better consoles in the same generation, but the line-ups and iconic games of the PlayStation were undeniable. The odd one out was the PlayStation 3, which suffered from Sony's arrogance. It was expensive, difficult to develop for, and had a lack of good exclusives. However, it seems that the PlayStation 5 is taking the opposite route. It started off strong, with a decent price and a good selection of games in the first couple of years. But now, with the rumored release of a more expensive PS5 Pro, it's becoming a burden for consumers.

It's funny how I keep forgetting that the PlayStation 3 was in the same generation as the Xbox 360. The latter dominated the market, with games like Halo and Gears of War at its peak. The most high-profile exclusives for the PlayStation 3, such as Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4, were not as well-recognized. But in the end, the PlayStation 3 ended on a good note while the Xbox 360 went downhill due to its Kinect feature. And in the next generation, Sony learned from its mistakes while Microsoft seemed to have lost its way.

So yes, the PlayStation 3 may not have been the best console, but it was just a blip in Sony's history. On the other hand, the PlayStation 5 seems to be a festering pimple that Sony is too afraid to pop. We can't say for sure if their focus is on live service games or single-player experiences, as they have not been transparent with their plans. Rumors suggest that there is internal disagreement within Sony, causing a lack of direction. But the result is still the same - a lack of game releases.

This year, we got the forgettable game, Concord, which was quickly erased from existence. And Astro Bot, a great game, was not given enough promotion. Then there's the pointless remake of Until Dawn, which did even worse than Concord. And now, Sony has nothing big planned for Christmas and no games with a scheduled release date for next year. It doesn't matter what their intentions are, the fact is, they're not releasing anything.

And yet, they expect us to shell out a hefty amount for the most expensive console to play slightly upgraded versions of PlayStation 4 games? It seems like Sony has lost its way and the PlayStation 5 may just be their worst console yet. I'm not even sure they'll be able to recover with the PlayStation 6.
