Madikeri, July 16: Monsoon rains have continued in the district, and the rain has been somewhat heavy since yesterday. Although there is no heavy rain, it is raining continuously. Currently, there is a rehabilitative rain, and now some heavy rain is being seen in its last leg. The State Meteorological Department has announced a yellow alert for the district on Wednesday and Thursday (today). The district has already received more rain than last year, and the monsoon period is still pending. Due to the current situation, the coffee crop is being affected, and the increasing fallout along with rot disease is causing concern for the growers. Paddy cultivation work has started in some places and is progressing. But the threat of wild elephants, along with incidents like tiger attacks, is turning out to be unfavorable for the farmers.

The district has received an average of 0.55 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Madikeri taluk received 1.44 inches of rain, while other taluks did not receive much rain on Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, Madikeri hobli of Madikeri taluk received 1.24 inches of rain, Napoklu 0.88 inches, Sampaje 1.90 inches, and Bhagamandala hobli received an average of 1.75 inches of rain.

Holiday today

Madikeri, July 16: In view of the heavy rain in the district, Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja has declared a holiday for Anganwadi, primary, high schools and pre-university colleges on Ta. 17 (today).

193.50 inches for Talakaveri

Locals have informed that Talakaveri, the home of the Cauvery, the lifeblood of the state, has received an estimated 193.50 inches of heavy rain since January this year. Now, 38.50 inches of rain has fallen in just 11 days since July 4. According to locals, 7 inches of rain fell in a single day on July 4th.
