It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of PV Gangadharan, a film producer, AICC member, and Mathrubhumi media house whole-time director. He passed away at 6.30 am on Friday at a private hospital in Kerala's Kozhikode district, aged 80.

For more than a week, Gangadharan had been hospitalised due to age-related ailments, and his funeral will take place on Saturday evening. He is survived by his wife PV Sherien and children Shenuga Jaythilak, Shegna Vigil, and Sherga Sandeep.

Known fondly as PVG, Gangadharan was an exemplary figure in the realms of cinema, politics, and business. After being born in 1943 to Madhavi Sami and PV Sami, a prominent businessman and founder of the KTC Group of Companies, he contested the Kerala Legislative Assembly poll in 2011 from Kozhikode North and was an active member of KPCC.

As the head of Grihalakshmi Films, PVG produced iconic movies that helped launch the careers of today's veteran actors and directors. His first production in 1977 was 'Sujatha' and was followed by many other classics, such as 'Manasa Vacha Karmana,' 'Angadi,' 'Ahimsa,' 'Chiriyo Chiri,' 'Kattathe Kilikkoodu,' 'Vartha,' 'Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha,' 'Adhwaytham,' and 'Ekalavyan.'

The Jayan-starrer 'Angadi' was directed by IV Sasi and is still considered as one of the best action films in Malayalam cinema. His last production was 'Janaki Jaane' in collaboration with S Cube in 2023.

Gangadharan's films have won many awards, including the prestigious Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in 1997 for Kanakkinaav. In 2000, the film 'Santham' won the National Award for Best Film, and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Kanakkinavu, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Achuvinte Amma, and Notebook were also recipients of state film awards.

We will remember PV Gangadharan for his immense contributions to the world of cinema, politics, and business. He was a true luminary and will be deeply missed.
