Police officer punched handcuffed autistic man seven times during arrest.
PC Jack Williams was recently sentenced to 12 weeks in jail for a shocking attack against Tariq Evans. CCTV footage captured Williams, 27, punching Evans, 23, in the head seven times whilst he was restrained in the back of a police van.

The court heard that Evans had been chased by several police officers through Swansea, suspected of criminal damage. He was arrested and thrown into the van, and restrained with leg ties, handcuffs and a spit hood.

Williams denied assault by beating, but was found guilty after a trial. Evans was never charged with any offence, but suffered memory loss, nightmares and headaches after the attack, which took place in October 2022.

It was heard in Newport Magistrates Court that Evans has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism. District Judge Sophie Toms said Evans was in a 'vulnerable position', and unable to move or deflect the blows. She said the attack was a 'persistent assault' and 'abuse of power by someone in a position of trust'.

Speaking after the sentence, Tariq's mother Sarah-Lee Evans said 'justice has been served'. She had only learned of her son's arrest after seeing the video on social media. She was emotional when she watched the footage in court and said 'seven times, that's taking the law into your own hands'.
