In a shocking turn of events, a man has been taken into custody by the Odisha Police for defrauding around 200 individuals of a whopping sum of Rs 5 crore. The culprit, Dhanajaya Sahoo, was apprehended by the Economic Offence Wing from Hyderabad along with his accomplices. It has been revealed that Sahoo's modus operandi involved luring people into investing their money with the promise of doubling their profits within a span of 10 months.
The illegal deposits, amounting to Rs 5 crore, were collected through Sahoo's company, Mutual Alliance Global Pvt Ltd, in 2020 and 2021. Shockingly, the victims were spread across various districts of Odisha, including Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. This has not only caused a severe financial setback for the victims but has also left them feeling betrayed and helpless.
Initially, Sahoo made small returns to his investors, giving them a false sense of security. However, as time passed, he stopped making any payments and went into hiding by shutting down the company's office. This prompted one of the victims, Govinda Chandra Sahoo from Jajpur district, to file a complaint with the police. Thanks to his efforts, the culprit was finally caught on February 21 and was brought to Bhubaneswar on Monday.
As part of the investigation, the police seized a laptop, mobile phone, pen drive, bank documents, and even a passport from Sahoo. This only goes to show the extent of his illegal activities and the need for a thorough investigation. The Police assured that they are leaving no stone unturned in unraveling the full extent of the scam and bringing justice to the affected individuals.
