Police have arrested a man who allegedly stole a car with a woman and child still inside.
A man from Perth is facing charges after he allegedly stole a car from a service station while a woman and child were inside. The 42-year-old, who resides in Henley Brook, is being charged for multiple offenses that occurred on August 20th.

According to the police, the man approached a Holden Commodore sedan around 9pm while a woman was refueling at a service station in Shoalwater. He then entered the car and started the engine, even though one of the children was still inside. The child managed to exit the car through the passenger side, but the woman remained in the backseat to free the second child from a car seat. Surveillance footage shows the man driving away with the woman and child still in the car.

Fortunately, the man stopped a short distance away, allowing the woman and child to safely exit the car unharmed. At 10:10pm, the police spotted the stolen car on Kalamunda Road in South Guildford. They attempted to pull the car over using emergency lights and sirens, but the driver failed to stop and a police chase ensued.

The chase was observed by police helicopters as the car traveled through various suburbs in Perth. The pursuit came to an end when the stolen car collided with the back of a Toyota Camry. The man then fled the scene on foot, but was eventually found hiding on the roof of a home on Giro Place in Middle Swan by the police.

As a result, the man has been charged with six offenses, including reckless driving to escape from the police, stealing a motor vehicle, and failing to stop and provide assistance after causing bodily harm. He appeared in Midlands Magistrates Court on August 21st and is scheduled to appear again on October 2nd.
