Police arrested two British preppers who allegedly planned to build a nuclear dirty bomb.
Two British doomsday preppers have been charged with nuclear offences following their arrest in Ruden, Carinthia State, Austria. Dubbed by police as having ‘planned to build a nuclear dirty bomb’, the pair, who have not been identified, have been charged with conspiracy to use a nuclear fuel, a radioactive substance, and an explosive.

When police arrived at the property, they discovered a massive arsenal of weapons, as well as materials for making bombs, including TNT, black powder, ball bearings, and detonators. The 67-year-old Brits, along with a 29-year-old Austrian co-conspirator, were also found to have 20 detonators and a mobile phone, which prosecutors believed was to be used as a trigger.

The property also revealed a plethora of guns, including assault rifles, leading authorities to believe that the house was occupied by a cult preparing for the end of the world. A spokesman for the Klagenfurt State Prosecution said the men will be in court over the illegal possession of weapons and explosives.

Investigators also found components of male lethal pipe bombs, including 1.5 kilogrammes of TNT, 8.5 kilogrammes of black powder, ball bearings, steel tubing, and sulphuric acid. Public Prosecutor’s spokesperson Tina Frimmel-Hesse said that the amount found was enough to produce eight pipe bombs with a devastating effect.

The three men were arrested after one of them called for an ambulance during a medical emergency. Responding paramedics immediately called police after seeing the arsenal at the property, leading to the arrest of the three inhabitants and sealing of the estate.

The three men were described as ‘hermits’, living a very reclusive life with no interest in talking to their neighbours. When questioned, they refused to reveal what they had planned to do with the explosives.

The pair face up to five years in jail and will stand trial at Klagenfurt District Court from today. A fourth accomplice, reportedly a 68-year-old Austrian national, remains at large.
