Edgar Junior, 50, has been jailed for 20 months after he put a woman through a persistent and brazen sexual assault on a train. On the Elizabeth Line from Paddington, he sexually assaulted a lone female passenger and approached others with sexualised comments, continuing until he got off the train in Reading - a journey of around 50 minutes.
British Transport Police were alerted to his actions on March 28 of last year, and Junior was arrested minutes after he got off the train. Bodyworn camera footage captured the moment he was arrested - and he spat in a police officer's face. One male passenger had told Junior to leave the woman alone, but he assaulted her before continuing to make sexual comments and gestures. Another woman sat with the victim until she got off the train, but Junior kept approaching other women and harassing them.
Junior, of Barnsdale Road in Reading, pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Reading crown court, where he was also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. The order stops him from subjecting women and girls to unwanted attention, and drinking alcohol in public.
Detective Inspector Marvin Bruno said: “Junior is a disturbing individual who subjected a woman to a brazen and persistent sexual assault as she was travelling on a train alone, and the custodial sentence he’s been handed shows just how seriously these offences are taken. I am thankful to the bystanders who recognised his revolting behaviour and stepped in to help, before reporting it to police immediately which allowed our officers to then intercept the train and arrest him.
