Gonikoppalu, Oct 16: As part of the 48th annual 'Dasara Janotsava' (People's Dasara Festival) organized under the aegis of the Sri Kaveri Dasara Committee, a state-level multilingual poets' gathering (*Kavigoshti*) was held in Gonikoppalu.

Against the backdrop of heavy rain, the event took place at the 'Swatantrya Horatagarara Bhavana' (Freedom Fighters' Hall)—where an idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari had been installed—rather than at the usual Kaveri Kala Vedike. Despite the rain pouring outside, the poets used their verses to express their emotions, address social issues, and highlight the flaws and shortcomings within society.

The gathering was organized jointly by the Department of Kannada and Culture, the Kodagu District Administration, the Sri Kaveri Dasara Committee (Gonikoppalu), and the Ponnampet Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat. A total of 102 poets recited their works in various languages, including Kannada, Kodava, Arebhashe, Tulu, Konkani, Havyaka, Yerava, Kumbara, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Kundapura Kannada, and English.

To encourage young talent, a special platform was also provided for children to recite poems in both Kannada and English. Poets arrived from various parts of the state, including Bengaluru, Belagavi, Ballari, Chikkamagaluru, Sullia, Mysuru, Kundapura, and Mangaluru.

All the poets who attended the gathering were honored with an honorarium and a book authored by a writer from Kodagu. During the event, a collection of poems in the Yerava language, titled 'Paave (Neralu)', was released by the dignitaries present on the stage.

The program was inaugurated by Vijaya Vishnubhat—a writer and the President of the Karnataka State Women Writers' Association—who lit the ceremonial lamp. Writer Krupa Devaraj presided over the event.
