Bhubaneswar: Kamala Moharana, a 65-year-old woman from Kendrapara district in Odisha, has once again become the center of attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi showed his respect for her by prostrating before her during an election rally in Odisha. Moharana was one of the few individuals who were felicitated by PM Modi during the meeting on Wednesday.

Overjoyed and humbled by the gesture, Moharana expressed her happiness at getting a chance to meet PM Modi. She also took the opportunity to praise him for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Moharana, who is known for her dedication to the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) campaign, first caught the nation's attention when PM Modi commended the efforts of her Women Self Help Group, Ama Dakhyata, during the 98th episode of his weekly radio program, Man Ki Baat, in February last year.

During the program, PM Modi highlighted the group's work in creating useful items such as baskets and mobile stands from waste materials, and praised their contribution towards cleanliness. He also urged everyone to switch from plastic bags to cloth bags, in order to make a significant impact in achieving a cleaner India.

Moharana's SHG, located in her village Khairabad, has been actively involved in making various products from waste materials for the past eight years. With the help of 40 to 50 female members, the group collects, cleans, and dries plastic waste from the village and surrounding areas. The plastic is then cut into strips and used to create products such as baskets, pen stands, and flower pots.

Moharana, who considers PM Modi as her brother, even sent him a Rakhi in August last year to show her love and respect for him. Her dedication and hard work towards the Swachh Bharat campaign has not only earned her recognition from the Prime Minister, but has also provided a source of income for the women in her village. As Moharana continues her crusade towards turning garbage into wealth, she serves as an inspiration for many others to contribute towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable India.
