More than 35 sheep sculptures will be travelling throughout Scotland during April and May as part of the 'Flock to the Show' public art trail. The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland, which is responsible for organising the Royal Highland Show, commissioned the sculptures to raise awareness of the Golden Shears World Sheep Shearing & Woolhandling Championships that will take place at the show from 22-25 June. Among the artists who have designed a sheep is Charlotte Brayley from Comrie, who used her pet sheep, Alan, as inspiration for her art project which helped her pay for her wedding, and Megan Reilly from Hamilton, who has painted over 1,000 murals throughout her career and created the 'Shepherds Delight' sheep. Jim Warnock, the chairman of the RHASS, said, “We are very eager to see our flock out and about across Scotland. Not only does 'Flock to the Show' celebrate the return of the Golden Shears to the Royal Highland Show, it will also bring attention to some important causes in the agricultural and rural sectors. We hope that everyone will come and visit our flock when they reach your region - with such an amazing and varied selection of designs from talented artists, visitors won't be disappointed.” If you want to learn more about the culture of Scotland, make sure to check out the news and reviews on Scottish Field's culture pages, as well as Alexander McCall Smith's column in the April issue of Scottish Field magazine.
