A mum has expressed her gratitude for a heroic shopper who intervened and saved her daughter from a potentially dangerous situation.
CCTV cameras in South-East London captured the woman ushering the 11-year-old girl into a charity shop.
The mum, who wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter's identity, posted a warning online for all parents:
"Please make sure your kids are safe. Thank God for the lovely lady who saved my daughter from being taken. I cannot thank her enough."
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred at 11.45am on Saturday 24 June, when the young girl was approached by a man on High Street, West Wickham. He attempted to persuade her to go with him.
The woman in a turquoise dress stepped in and told him to leave before taking the girl into the Mind charity shop next door to Shriji News.
The Met is now appealing for anyone who can name the two men in the images to come forward. Maunil Patel, the owner of Shriji News, said he recognised the girl as she lived nearby, but did not know the men who followed her into the store.
This incident serves as an important reminder for parents to remain vigilant when it comes to their children's safety.
Anyone who is able to provide information that might assist the Met investigation is urged to call 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting reference CAD 3430/24Jun. Alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
