The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Panama, Javier Eduardo Martinez-Acha Vasquez, made his way to New Delhi on Sunday for a five-day official visit to India. The purpose of this visit is to further strengthen the ties between the two nations. As he arrived, he was greeted with a warm welcome from Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.
Jaiswal took to social media to express his excitement, tweeting, "Warm welcome to FM @javierachapma of Panama on his arrival in New Delhi. India and Panama share a close partnership anchored in shared values, mutual interests and goodwill." The visit, which is scheduled from July 19 to 23, is a reflection of the growing engagement between India and Panama in various areas such as trade, commerce, connectivity, and diplomatic cooperation. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Panamanian Foreign Minister will hold several high-level meetings with senior Indian leaders during his stay in the capital city.
On Monday, he will have a meeting with the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, at the new Parliament Building to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Later in the day, he is scheduled to have delegation-level talks with the External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, at Hyderabad House.
The discussions are expected to cover all aspects of the India-Panama relationship and explore new opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The visiting Foreign Minister will also participate in official engagements in New Delhi on Tuesday before meeting the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, at Transport Bhavan on Wednesday. The focus of this meeting will be on maritime cooperation, logistics, port development, and strengthening connectivity between the two nations.
The official visit will conclude on Thursday when the Panamanian Foreign Minister departs from India. This visit comes at a time when the diplomatic engagement between the two countries is on the rise. Earlier this month, India's Ambassador to Panama, Sumit Seth, met with Foreign Minister Martinez-Acha to discuss measures to deepen and strengthen the bilateral partnership.
During the meeting, Ambassador Seth presented the Foreign Minister with a ceremonial India-Panama Flags Pin. The two leaders also exchanged views on expanding cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the two countries. India and Panama share a warm and friendly relationship based on shared democratic values, mutual respect, and expanding cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, maritime affairs, connectivity, and multilateral forums.
The ongoing visit by Foreign Minister Javier Martinez-Acha is expected to give a fresh boost to the bilateral ties and create new opportunities for collaboration in key sectors.
