Over the past 6 months, the Bhubaneswar cyber police station has received 2,400 complaints.
According to a senior officer, the dedicated cyber police station in Bhubaneswar has received a significant number of complaints in the past six months. A total of 2,394 cases of cyber fraud, involving a whopping amount of Rs 36 crore, have been reported. The Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner, Sanjeeb Panda, informed the media that out of these cases, 150 have been registered as FIRs at the cyber police station.

The victims of these frauds are not just from Bhubaneswar, but also from various other parts of the state. The police have been actively working on these cases and have managed to freeze approximately Rs 9.50 crore in fraudulent funds. They have also successfully returned Rs 46 lakh to the victims. Panda further shared that 21 cyber fraudsters have been arrested so far. In addition, the police have busted two inter-state cyber fraud rackets and apprehended their members from Bengaluru, Guwahati, and Rajasthan.

According to Panda, the majority of the cases involved UPI fraud, social media scams, parcel delivery scams, credit card delivery frauds, and fake KYC messages. Investigations have revealed the involvement of fraudsters from foreign countries as well. The police are working tirelessly to bring these criminals to justice and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

In a separate incident, the Odisha crime branch made a significant breakthrough by arresting 15 cybercriminals, including two masterminds, for their involvement in a series of cryptocurrency, stock, and IPO investment frauds. This is a major step towards curbing cybercrime and protecting innocent individuals from falling victim to such scams.

The police are urging citizens to be cautious while making any online transactions and to immediately report any suspicious activities. They also advise people to not share any personal information or banking details with unknown individuals or on unsecured websites. Let us all join hands in the fight against cybercrime and make the internet a safer place for everyone.
