Lucknow: Children in the state of Uttar Pradesh no longer fear attending public schools. In the last six years, a whopping 55 to 60 lakh students have been added to the same schools, as announced by the state's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, the Chief Minister said the number of students attending elementary schools in UP is now more than 1.91 crore - a number that is greater than the population of many countries.

To encourage these students to continue their education, Adityanath released Rs 1,200 to each student studying in schools under the state government's Basic Education department for the upcoming academic session of 2023-24.

He also said that it is the responsibility of teachers to ensure that the funds sent for children are utilised properly. He urged teachers to communicate with the parents of students who dropout midway and encourage them to continue their education. This will also help the government to know how many children are actually studying in the schools of the Basic Education Department.

Adityanath further cited a NITI Aayog report, stating that education is the foremost factor required for achieving the goal of poverty-free Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, he mentioned that 1.64 lakh teachers have been recruited in the state in the last six years, a figure that was severely lacking before 2017. He also requested for regular refresher courses for teachers to keep them updated.

Finally, Adityanath expressed his gratitude to the institutions that have contributed to the progress of the Basic Education Council's Operation Kayakalp. He honoured six such institutions for providing funds for infrastructure improvement and facilities.
