Olly Murs has confirmed his singing series, Starstruck, has been canceled. The show, based on the Stars In Their Eyes format, aired for two seasons and featured members of the public impersonating showbiz stars. Olly hosted the show, and judges included Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight, Shania Twain, and Jason Manford.
Speaking to The Sun at the National Television Awards, Olly expressed his disappointment about the cancelation. “Presenting is something I have always loved doing. Starstruck was amazing but that isn’t coming back. I am gutted, it is such a great show.”
The winners of each season won a £50,000 prize for their singing efforts. Cher impersonator Rachel won the most recent season, which aired earlier this year.
Despite Starstruck being canceled, Olly expressed his hope for The X Factor, on which he got his break in 2009, to come back. “I love any show that gives people a crack at this industry. If it wasn’t for that show I wouldn’t be here. Me and Simon are great, it’s been a long time. Whether it’s The X Factor or The Voice, there are so many voices that need to be heard. Working on The Voice for me has always been an honour.”
Earlier this year a source told The Daily Star that while there were plans to film a new series this autumn and air it in 2024, the plans were ‘scrapped’. “Starstruck was popular, but it wasn’t as big as shows like Britain’s Got Talent and The Masked Singer, so it was always at risk of being sidelined for something else.” An ITV spokesperson then told Express.co.uk a third season was yet to be confirmed.
Starstruck may be gone, but Olly Murs will always be remembered for his role in the show. The series aired for two seasons and gave people a chance to show off their talent and take home a hefty prize. Although Olly is disappointed that the show is gone, he hopes to see other singing series make a return.
