The Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) is thrilled to announce that Lizzo and veteran music executive Sylvia Rhone will be honored at the 2023 BMAC Gala.
Lizzo will be presented with the prestigious Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award, while Rhone will be awarded the Clarence Avant Trailblazer Award.
Co-founder and chair of the BMAC, Willie “Prophet” Siggers, expressed his admiration for the two honorees and their tremendous impact on the music industry.
“We applaud their dedication to pushing boundaries, amplifying Black voices and crashing through those glass ceilings, creating space for Black women.”
Lizzo has been vocal about her philanthropic work and commitment to social justice throughout her career, and it is for this that she will be honored. In 2020, she launched her website, Lizzolovesyou.com, and has since donated and raised nearly $1 million for 18 different social justice organizations.
Lizzo has also been a staunch supporter of reproductive health care for women. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, she donated a whopping $1 million to Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds.
Sylvia Rhone is being honored for her groundbreaking impact in the music industry. She is the first woman to become CEO of a Fortune 500 record label, and has made waves at major entertainment companies like Universal Records, Elektra Entertainment Group, and Motown Records.
The other BMAC honorees include big names like Keke Palmer, Jermaine Dupri, and Jesse Collins.
The 2023 BMAC Gala will take place at the Beverly Hilton on September 21 and be hosted by Kenny Burns.
This event is guaranteed to be a star-studded night of celebrating the achievements of four amazing individuals and the power of music.
