Odisha students held a sit-in protest to demand more teachers in their school.
Kangeila Janata Upper Primary School in the Kamakhyanagar block of the Dhenkanal district has been facing a teacher shortage for some time now. This has resulted in a dire situation for the 152 students enrolled in classes 6th, 7th, and 8th who are being taught by just two teachers. This has caused much distress amongst the students and their guardians, and on Monday, they launched a sit-in protest to demand the immediate appointment of more teachers.

Laxmipriya Lenka, one of the students, voiced her concerns to Odisha Tv. “We have been struggling with this teacher shortage for a long time. Our studies have been greatly hampered as a result, and we demand that more teachers be appointed for hassle-free teaching.”
The situation has been communicated to the Block Education Officer multiple times, but no action has been taken. This has only served to further frustrate the students and their guardians. Sasmita Rout, a guardian, shared her sentiments, saying, “The headmaster and one assistant teacher are having to look after 152 students. With the current staff shortage, students are unable to perform well in examinations. We appeal to the higher authorities to appoint more teachers for smooth teaching.”

The students and their guardians have vowed not to stop protesting until their demands are met. However, no comments have been received from the BEO as of now.
