Odisha's tableau will not be featured at the Republic Day Parade this year.
Bhubaneswar: It seems that this year's Republic Day Parade in New Delhi on January 26 will not include the Odisha tableau, despite the state's impressive first prize win at last year's parade. According to official sources, the Ministry of Defence has rejected the state's proposed tableau for this year's parade, after going through five rounds of the selection process at Kartavya Path.

However, there is still a silver lining for the Odisha tableau as it will be showcased at the 'Bharat Parv' event, which is a part of the Republic Day celebrations. This event will be held from January 26 to 31 near the iconic Red Fort. Other states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Union Territories of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu and Chandigarh will also participate in the Republic Day parade, as confirmed by sources.

A total of 34 states and Union Territories had sent in their proposals to the expert committee, which was constituted under the Ministry of Defence and consisted of eminent persons in the fields of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography. This committee was responsible for reviewing and selecting the best tableaux for the parade. However, Mizoram and Sikkim have expressed their inability to participate this time, while officials from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep were absent from the committee meeting.

It is worth mentioning that the Odisha tableau had won the top spot among all states at last year's national level Republic Day Parade. The theme of the tableau was centered around showcasing the involvement of women in the handicraft and handloom sector, empowering themselves. This was a significant achievement for the state as it marked their return to the parade after a gap of three years.
