A fire incident occurred at a privately-owned nursing home in Cuttack, Odisha on Saturday evening, according to officials. The nursing home, situated near Purighat Police Station, caught fire around 4:30 pm and three fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the location to put out the blaze.
Director-General of Fire Services, Sudhanshu Sarangi, reported that while the fire was now under control, the smoke was still a concern. To address this, exhaust systems have been employed to clear the area. Furthermore, all patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have been safely relocated as a precautionary measure. Among them were 12 newborns who require specialized care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The fire is said to have originated on the first floor of the nursing home, as confirmed by Sarangi. Some patients have also been transferred to the government-run SCB Medical College and Hospital, as stated by another official. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is being investigated.
