Wallace and Gromit, two beloved icons of stop-motion animation, are making their long-awaited return to the screen after almost 20 years. This news is sure to bring tears of joy to fans who have been eagerly awaiting their next adventure.
Titled "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl," the Christmas special will air on BBC One, marking the first appearance of the lovable duo since 2008's "A Matter of Loaf and Death." Before that, they had captured the hearts of audiences in the 1990s with their short films such as "A Grand Day Out," "The Wrong Trousers," and "A Close Shave."
This upcoming special is their second feature-length film since their Oscar-winning debut, "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" in 2005. Executive producer Carla Shelley promises a mix of emotions for viewers, saying, "I think we're going to make everybody cry. We're going to surprise everybody and make you laugh as well."
Shelley, along with co-director Merlin Crossingham and creator Nick Park, revealed during a recent event that they had just finished post-production on the project the day before. And for this new adventure, Wallace and Gromit will be facing off against an old foe - the silent but deadly penguin, Feathers McGraw.
Fans will remember Feathers as the villain from the 1993 Bafta-winning short film, "The Wrong Trousers," where he manipulates Wallace's mechanical trousers to steal a blue diamond. He was caught and has been behind bars ever since, until now when he returns for revenge.
In the latest film, Wallace's newest invention, a robotic "smart-gnome" named Norbot, causes trouble for the duo when he becomes voice-activated, much to the dismay of Gromit. Park explains that Wallace represents our love for technology, while Gromit is content without it.
As for Feathers' return, Park says they wanted to spice things up and give the story a more sinister edge. "We needed something with a bit more bite, and someone with an actual clear, sinister motive. Feathers McGraw was obviously the perfect candidate, having sat in jail for 30 years, languishing, thinking of nothing but revenge. It seemed like the perfect motivation for a villain," he shares.
"Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl" will air on Christmas Day on BBC One and will also be available worldwide on Netflix. The creators are excited to share this new adventure with fans and are looking forward to their reactions. So mark your calendars and get ready for the emotional rollercoaster that awaits with the return of these beloved characters.
