Nicholas Hoult didn't get cast in three big films: The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible.
Nicholas Hoult has been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride when it comes to Hollywood roles. While he's currently enjoying the highs of his new movie Renfield, he's had his fair share of lows. He lost out on major roles in three big franchises over the past three years, and was even forced to turn down Tom Cruise when he came knocking with a role for him in Mission: Impossible 7.

Unfortunately, his obligations to Hulu series The Great meant he had to pull out of the project, leaving Robert Pattinson to take the mantle of Batman in the 2022 movie. This was after Hoult had already screen-tested for both Batman and Top Gun: Maverick, but not gotten either part.

Despite the missed opportunities, Hoult has still found success with his award-nominated role in The Great and his most recent role in Renfield

Despite missing out on the chance to play the lead in some of Hollywood's biggest franchises, Nicholas Hoult has still managed to stay positive.

He narrowly lost out on the main roles in Batman, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7, but was even offered the part of the villain in the latter by Tom Cruise himself.

Unfortunately, Hoult had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts and the part was eventually taken by Esai Morales.

The Renfield star was certainly dealt a tough hand, though the silver lining is that Robert Pattinson went on to make his debut as Batman to critical and financial success.

While Hoult may have lost out on some major roles, he is now riding high with Renfield in cinemas and has been nominated for an Emmy for his role as Tsar of Russia Peter the Great in Hulu period drama series The Great.
