NFL player Shareece Wright speaks up about a reported sexual assault that occurred during his time in high school.
On February 23rd, former NFL cornerback Shareece Wright bravely shared his story and involvement in a lawsuit against a former high school athletic trainer. Wright, along with 11 others, accused the trainer of sexual assault during their time at Colton High School.

According to ESPN, Wright was one of six football players who initially came forward with allegations against Tiffany Strauss-Gordon in September 2022. Their attorney, Morgan Stewart, explained that Strauss-Gordon's position and close relationship with the coach created a perfect environment for abuse to occur and be covered up.

"It was like a perfect storm of sexual abuse," Wright expressed, "with football, the coach's daughter, and a permissive school environment where these things were allowed to happen." He also revealed that the alleged conduct of Strauss-Gordon was so well-known that players and coaches referred to it as "The Tiffany treatment."

Another plaintiff, who chose to remain anonymous, described the abuse as open and obvious. "Everyone knew what was happening," they said. Despite a statement from the school district claiming to have taken decisive action, Strauss-Gordon was allowed to return to work in 2011 after an internal investigation.

John Manly, one of the attorneys representing the victims, spoke out against this response. "People within their own institutions rarely find themselves guilty," he stated. "Their duty is to report, not investigate."

Wright, as reported by USA Today, is hopeful that his speaking out will bring attention to the issue of male sexual assault victims. "I was worried about how people would react or portray my story," he shared. "The narrative that as boys, it's not a big deal or not that serious bothers me the most."

He also wants to change the narrative surrounding male victims of sexual assault. "There's this belief that it's not as bad or doesn't affect you as much if you're a boy," Wright explained. "But for me, it deeply impacted my ability to connect with women romantically."

Wright revealed that the encounters with Strauss-Gordon have caused him to constantly search for that "sexual high" he experienced at a young age. "It's been years of me chasing it and not being able to find it," he admitted. "Maybe I would be married by now if this hadn't happened to me, and I would have a healthier relationship with my body and with women."
