Have you heard about the new Star Wars game from Ubisoft? It's called Star Wars Outlaws and let me tell you, it's a real beauty. The game has been making waves in the gaming world, and for good reason. It looks absolutely stunning, as two new videos were just released showcasing its open world gameplay.

While the Xbox Games Showcase may have been the highlight of this year's not-E3 events, the competition is not over yet. The Nintendo Direct hasn't even been given a date yet, and although not much is expected, you never know with Nintendo. However, the only third-party publisher with an event this year is Ubisoft, who recently held their Ubisoft Forward event on Monday evening.

Much to many fans' disappointment, the event didn't announce anything entirely new. Instead, they focused on two highly anticipated games: Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows. These games were previously announced, but we haven't seen much of them in action until now. And let me tell you, the visuals for Outlaws are absolutely breathtaking.

Although it's a game for multiple platforms, Outlaws was first unveiled at last year's Xbox Games Showcase. It's being touted as the first proper open world Star Wars game and a Han Solo simulator without Han Solo. Instead, players will take on the role of a new character named Kay Vess, who Ubisoft employees seem to be obligated to refer to as a "scoundrel" every time they mention her name.

The game is set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and while the overall storyline is still a mystery, players will have the freedom to work for any criminal cartel they choose. This means picking up jobs and traveling to different planets at their own pace.

The main gameplay trailer from Ubisoft Forward shows Kay leaving a seedy bar on one planet to travel to the even seedier cantina on Tatooine. Along the way, she gets into a brief space dogfight, adding some excitement to the journey. The graphics for both bars are incredibly detailed, with authentic Star Wars elements and stunning lighting. The scenes outside, where Kay is driving a speeder bike, are also visually impressive.

But the most interesting part of the gameplay is not the combat or stealth mechanics, but the fact that the mission players embark on is not a super important story mission. Instead, it's a quest to find a local gunslinger who can teach Kay a new move. Other experts offer similar skills that players can acquire by completing multi-stage missions. This open-ended design is a refreshing change from the usual linear storytelling in most games.

As Star Wars enthusiasts, we couldn't help but get excited about the little details, like the binary sunset of Tatooine and the Imperial Troop Transport pulling up. And the freighters in the space mission look just like the ones from the old PC X-Wing games. The game truly captures the authenticity of the Star Wars universe.

However, the big question remains: will there be enough substance to the game? We won't have to wait long to find out, as the game is set to release on August 30 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Ubisoft's Avatar game, developed by the same studio, was well-received, so there's reason to hope that Star Wars Outlaws will be just as good. And either way, it's sure to be one of the most visually impressive games of this generation.
