NC A&T grad creates fashion line that connects generations and supports HBCU education.
Cheylaina Fultz is a proud alumna of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the creative mind behind HBCU Legacy Fashion. This fashion-forward collection is focused on the children of HBCU graduates and its purpose is to raise awareness and celebrate the higher education offered at HBCUs.

In 2019, Fultz envisioned a trendy clothing line for kids which later expanded to adult apparel as well. She currently offers jackets, crop top hoodies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other unique items. Her vision was to introduce something fresh to the market, offering classic pieces that could be passed down for generations and honor the HBCU legacy.

Fultz's strategy to promote her brand is to educate children about HBCU history and culture. She visits grade schools and career fairs and spreads information through the HBCU Legacy Fashion newsletter. This newsletter contains fun facts for parents to chat with their kids about and downloadable word search puzzles featuring different HBCUs for kids to complete.

The brand is also present in 36 Belk stores across the United States and online through Amazon Prime. Fultz has held virtual and in-person vending events at various homecoming events like Howard and Spell-House.

Fultz credited her alma mater for giving her the confidence to run her business. “That’s one that N.C. A&T will instill into you confidence in your culture, your name, your background, and where you’re from,” she said. With this confidence, she is now building her legacy in the HBCU world.
