This year, the fourth National CROWN Day is getting a special upgrade. Presented by Dove and the CROWN Coalition, the celebration is being extended to a two-week event from July 3rd to the Essence Festival Of Culture in New Orleans.
The festivities will be capped off with the CROWN Awards, hosted by Tai Beauchamp and honoring Black women and girls who have used their strength and grace to make a positive impact on the community. Among those being honored are Caroline Wanga, the president and CEO of Essence, Camille Friend, an Academy Award-nominated hairstylist, MC Lyte, Quvenzhané Wallis, Michelle Miller, Lynae Vanee, Tabitha Brown, and Kym Whitley.
Unilever, the parent company of brands such as Vaseline, Shea Moisture, and Dove, is proud to continue its sponsorship in the fight against hair discrimination.
Esi Eggleston Bracey, the president of Unilever U.S. & CEO of Unilever Personal Care, says that even though 23 states and 50 municipalities have passed the CROWN Act, there is still more work to be done to ensure protection and inclusivity.
The company recently opened the Polycultural Center of Excellence, a salon where Black people can test their products and give honest opinions on what works best for them and why. This shows how serious Unilever is about understanding the importance of Black haircare.
CROWN Day is an event that celebrates Black beauty and intellect, and this year’s festivities will be bigger and better than ever. We look forward to uplifting Black women and girls who are proudly standing in their full beauty and legacy.
