Mum left her two young kids sleeping in a car while she was at a bar with a friend.
Jamie Leigh Gunn, 33, was arrested and charged with child neglect after police found her two young children sleeping in the backseat of an unlocked car, with the engine running, while she was inside a bar in West Melbourne, Florida.

On Sunday night, police were on a routine patrol of businesses when they spotted Gunn's black SUV in the parking lot of Penny Annie's Bar. After noticing the two-year-old and 8-month-old sleeping in the backseat, they investigated further and found Gunn inside the bar.

According to the West Melbourne Police Department, the investigation revealed that she had been inside the establishment for at least 20 minutes with no regard for her children's safety. When she learned law enforcement was outside, her main concern seemed to be about going to jail rather than the welfare of her children.

Gunn, of West Melbourne, was taken into custody and her bond was set at $15,000. She was later released on Monday. Her criminal record includes possession of drug paraphernalia, contempt of court, forgery, and driving with a suspended license. Her most recent arrest was in July 2022 for failing to appear in court on charges from one of her past cases.

The Department of Children and Families is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. The children are now under the care of a family member.

The incident in West Melbourne, located about 70 miles southeast of Orlando, comes a few months after a school librarian left his one-year-old daughter in his SUV while working. Fortunately, a co-worker noticed the baby and smashed the rear passenger window before rescuing her. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
