Morris Chestnut, the actor and host of Rebuilding Black Wall Street, will be delivering the keynote speech at the 2023 BizTech Challenge. This STEM-based competition is held for students from Louisiana's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and the event will be taking place on Nov. 24.
The challenge will allow seven student teams to present their business ideas with a chance to win up to $20,000 in prize money. Each team will have five minutes to present their ideas and two minutes to answer questions from the distinguished panelists. The top three teams will receive a total of $20,000, while the team with the highest score will be awarded $10,000.
Chestnut's speech will focus on the importance of Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs in the pursuit of sustainable Black wealth. He will be joined by Nexus Louisiana, Louisiana Economic Development, Block Inc., and Innovation Catalyst in presenting this challenge. Block Inc. is also sponsoring the event; the company launched a $100 million social justice impact fund in 2020 to support minority and underserved communities.
Chestnut's hosting duties on Rebuilding Black Wall Street have taken him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he sees the descendants of the 1921 race massacre attempting to rebuild the Greenwood District. He has covered the creation of North Tulsa's only natural birthing center and the construction of a haven for recently incarcerated women reintegrating back into society.
This event will provide great insight into the importance of Black-owned businesses and will also showcase innovative business ideas from HBCU students. We look forward to hearing Morris Chestnut's keynote speech at this historic event.
