Mohan Charan Majhi honors Odisha's heroes before taking oath.
This morning in Bhubaneswar, Mohan Charan Majhi, the recently elected Chief Minister of Odisha, paid his respects to the state's icons by offering floral tributes at their statues. Accompanied by his deputy CM designates, KV Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida, Majhi began his tribute at Gopabandhu Square, where he honored Utkala Mani Gopabandhu Das. He then proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he paid his respects to Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das. At Power House Square, he offered floral tributes to Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo, followed by Parala Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati and Ramachandra Mardaraj Deo at AG Square.

The tribute continued as Majhi garlanded the statues of Fakir Mohan Senapati at Vani Vihar Square, Dharanidhar Bhuyan at Mayfair Square, Gangadhar Meher at Kalinga Hospital Square, and Birsa Munda at Maitri Vihar. Majhi, who has served four terms as MLA, expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made in the BJP's manifesto within the first 100 days of his government.

Deputy CM Deo also shared their dedication to the people's welfare, stating, "As soon as we take our oath, we will begin working on the promises we made in our election manifesto. We sought the people's blessings, and they have graciously given us the opportunity to lead the government."

During their tribute, Majhi took a moment to speak with Bijay Kumar Das, a class IV employee of the Transport Department, who was waiting on the roadside. Das was touched by Majhi's kind words and expressed his disbelief that a leader would stop to speak with a common man even after the elections. "I told him about my struggles to support my family and provide for my children's education with my meager salary," Das recounted.

After their conversation, Majhi emphasized the importance of fulfilling the basic needs of the people, stating, "After 24 years of one party's rule, the least we can do is take care of the people's basic needs. It's disheartening to see them struggling to make a decent living." The BJP's victory in the elections, with 78 out of 147 assembly seats, marked the end of the BJD's 24-year-long reign.
